Erik L. Monica VanDieren served as a board member of the Western Pennsylvania Wheelmen for several years before becoming the president in January 2017.  She hopes to continue the WPW tradition of working with other area cycling organizations to provide a spectrum of group ride options for cyclists. Monica is also a math professor, wife, and mother.  She enjoys incorporating cycling into her daily life.  Every year she leads the RMU freshmen honors class in a bike ride with Venture Outdoors during orientation week. And this month she will participate in RMU’s Bike Ride to DC along the Great Allegheny Passage.

Larry Gioia is management consultant at PwC, and when not traveling on business, it’s a safe bet that you can find him doing something active outside with his wife and his dog. Larry is passionate about building and connecting communities and is best known for his work in adaptive sports and advocating for people with disabilities to live active lifestyles.  Larry is the Founder of Dynamic Paddlers – a (concierge) kayaking school based in Pittsburgh that offers instruction and training for paddlers of all ages and abilities. Dynamic Paddlers specializes in adaptive kayaking for people with disabilities.  He is an American Canoe Association (ACA) certified kayaking instructor and one of thirteen ACA Adaptive Kayaking Instructor Trainers in the world. Larry is also the Co-Founder of the Pittsburgh Adaptive Sports Network.

Podcast #25-’17- Active Cities- Jason Miller

Jason Miller is the Assistant Director for Campus Recreation at the University of Pittsburgh and the Founder and CEO of Active Cities.  An alumnus of the University of Pittsburgh, Jason received Bachelor’s Degrees in History and Sociology and a Master of Arts in Teaching. As an undergraduate, Jason was a member of the Men’s Varsity Swimming Team where he won multiple individual and team Conference Championships, earned Academic All-American honors, and was the 2006 recipient of the Blue-Gold Pitt Athletics Achievement Award. He participated in the 2008 Olympic Swimming Trials, placing 48th in the 100 Butterfly.  Jason is happily married to his wife, Megan, and is the proud father of their two children, Jenna and Jacob. They have a lazy hound dog, Riley. In his spare time, he enjoys working on home projects, exercising, and spending time with family and friends.  Jason’s favorite thing about Pittsburgh is “the endless amount of things to see and do!”
