240 Minutes of Margraff Rules

Rules
240 Minutes of Margraff

  1. Don’t Be A Jerk and Have Fun!!
  2. Racers are responsible for knowing the course. Follow the white lines on the course- they will be on the ground when you get close to turns. Don’t cross over any orange lines.  We can’t close the course since it is a State Park.  Search Strava for “Margraff 240 2026” to access the course to load onto your computer, or go to https://www.moving2live.com/margraff/ and there is a written description of the course
  3. Teams: designate a team captain.  Team captains will represent the team in all official correspondence and communications before, during and after the event.
  4. Attend the pre-race meeting 15 minutes before the start. This allows you to get any updated information that is not available on the website.
  5. We want this to be a fun event- be aware of other racers on the course. Help other racers out if you are able (mechanicals, etc).  You can provide support to other racers/other racers can provide support to you…your best friend can provide support- we want people to ride, not miss out!!  Along the same lines if you have a mechanical, you can run the bike in, or someone can provide you with a bike somewhere on the course so that you are physically completing an entire lap with a bike. If you need to switch bikes, make sure you remember to switch the number on the bike too, so the lap can be counted.
  6. We will have water, and some snacks, but this is not a fully supported race/tour. Plan and bring your favorite electrolyte drink, water flavor and snacks.  Bonus if you bring the race director a moon pie!!
  7. Leave No Trace.  This is a State Forest, and we want to make sure we are able to hold this event next year too. We will have trash cans at the start/finish.
  8. Racers must display their race number on the front of their bike, whenever on-course. At the end of each lap, you’ll need to make a brief pause for a volunteer to mark your number for lap completion. For a lap account, it must be completed before the race clock hits zero. At the end of the race, we will collect your race numbers to tally laps for awards.  The race numbers are 10 mil plastic and if you want to keep your race number, we will return it after we count laps.  We know some races use electronic timing. This is a first year grassroots race or we just want to be old-school – either way you’ll need to pause a few seconds each lap to have the lap counted.
  9. If you are a team, there is not a minimum number of laps that each team member must complete. This is a race, but we also want people to have fun and we understand that some teams will be more competitive than others/some riders are going to want to ride more.
  10. If you are overtaking a slower rider, it is your responsibility to overtake safely.  You may need to wait a few moments to safely pass. If you are a rider being overtaken, then yield when it is safe to do so. The key is to remember “don’t be a jerk” so that everyone has a safe race.
  11. Don’t shortcut the course. If you know Margraff, then you know that it would be fairly easy to cut the course. This is a race, but honestly bragging rights for the most laps of 240 Minutes of Margraff isn’t quite as impressive as finishing something like the Leadville 100.
  12. Watch the language – we’ve all been cussed out by another rider, it doesn’t feel good and it doesn’t represent mountain biking in a positive light
  13. When you’re riding, helmets must be worn. If you are in the gravel categories – no suspension, 2.2 tires or smaller and drop bars. We have a few gravel racers, and I am excited about that.
  14. If for some reason, you are dropping out/stopping the race before 2 PM, please let a volunteer at the lap finish line know. This allows us to make sure that all racers are accounted for.
  15. iPods/Music: racers may use iPods or other similar MP3 devices, BUT, must only wear earphones in one ear or use open ear/bone conduction headsets so you can hear other racers on course
